ST. LAMBERT WELCOMES CANADA

The St. Lambert Curling Club has a long standing reputation for its promotion of the game, and is proud to be involved in a truly national undertaking such as the Canadian Masters Curling Championship.

The Club was founded in 1955 as a private non-profit organization and boasts 240 members. However, its facilities (with three sheets of ice) have a modern look since the clubhouse was rebuilt and the ice shed revamped in 2002, only a few a few months after being devastated by a fire.

It was as a representative of the St. Lambert Curling Club that Guy Hemmings led the Quebec team to the finals of the Brier in both 1998 and 1999. His prowess and outgoing personality gave a boost to curling in the province and inspired many players here. And, to this day, Guy Hemmings represents an attraction in the world of curling across Canada.

François Vary, another member from St. Lambert, made his mark in the world of Canadian curling. He received the National Volunteer of the Year award in 2003 after leading the reconstruction of the St. Lambert Curling Club ravaged by the 2002 blaze. Thanks to his relentless efforts it took less than a year for members to once again play in new, top quality facilities. He also recently received an honorary life membership in the Canadian Branch of The Royal Caledonian Curling Club.

The St. Lambert club is active in community life and provides benefits to service organizations and the curling fraternity including:

  • Support to service organizations such as the Lions Club.
  • Provision of facilities for high school curling three days a week during the winter months and hosting of two major junior tournaments during the year with  approximately 200 students benefiting from this service.
  • Use of club facilities by “Kurling for Kids” a charitable event supporting the Montreal Children’s and Sainte-Justine’s Hospitals.
  • Organization of the Curl-In, a competition held each year in October. Over the years the event’s several categories attracted curlers from Quebec and beyond, and has developed a reputation for outstanding hospitality.

After all these years, the St. Lambert Curling Club remains well-established and committed to playing an important role in this Montreal South Shore community. All its members look forward to welcoming the Canadian Master’s competitors and will make every effort to ensure they enjoy an unforgettable week during the Championship as they defend their provincial and territorial colours.
